Katie Holmes: I was a restless child

The 36-year-old actress didn't necessarily think she would become famous when she was younger, but she was always into the artistic side of life. It was her mother who set her on the path to success when she came up with a way for Katie to work off all her energy.

"I was always interested in creative things and I especially loved dancing. When I was a little girl, my mother would drag me to the grocery store and my feet would be going so much that she finally signed me up for tap dancing lessons. I still love tap dancing," she laughed to British magazine Hello! "The first time I appeared on stage was in The Wiz in my first year of high school - I played a terrific tornado dancer."

Katie is happy to be where she is in life, but success didn't come easily. Asked what advice she'd give other young people who want to emulate her life, Katie said it's vital that you work hard and keep pushing even when you don't think it's going to work out.

In fact, it's this inner strength which Katie thinks is particularly vital to women.

"A strong woman is one who is comfortable in her own skin, who leads with her intelligence and is unselfish and, especially, a woman who fights for other women. I think that last part is very important," she said.

That's not to say everything about being famous is that great. The actress has gone through a high-profile divorce from Tom Cruise, with their marriage breaking down in 2012 and the split settled in a whirlwind two weeks.

Since then she's been single, but that hasn't stopped tongues wagging about her friendship with Jamie Foxx.

"No, that's just a story. People are always trying to link me with someone," she dismissed the speculation. "We're spending some time together because we're doing a work project together. People see us and it spins out of control. But what can you do? That's the world we live in right now."
