Roslindale author Annie Weatherwax was in New York this week to meet up with Katie Holmes, who’s directing and starring in an adaptation of Weatherwax’s 2014 novel, “All We Had.” “It is totally surreal,” Weatherwax said of visiting the set. “It’s like stepping into somebody else’s interpretation of my imagination. The set is really very much like I imagined it. And of course, the movie is going to be different from the book. It’s not going to be the same thing — and I’m so good with that.” Weatherwax said she’s heard that authors aren’t always embraced or prioritized on movie sets, but that wasn’t her experience. “They were so thrilled to meet me. Katie Holmes could not be a more down-to-earth person. When I met her, I said thank you — I was so grateful — and she said, ‘No, I should be thanking you.’?” “All We Had” is the story of a mother and daughter who struggle to make ends meet, and settle in a small town in New York. Holmes plays the mother, Rita. Her daughter is played by Stefania Owen, of “The Carrie Diaries.”
