Kent State students compete in New York Fashion Week event featuring Katie Holmes
By Troy L. Smith
Students from Kent State University got in on New York Fashion Week this year, with a chance to be judged by some of the biggest names in the fashion industry.
Students from the Fashion School at Kent State and its New York City studio location were invited to a JCPenney brunch at The Palace Hotel in Manhattan on Feb. 11.
The students were asked to create sketches inspired by Disney's forthcoming live-action "Cinderella" film (out March 13). The contest's judges included actress Katie Holmes and fashion industry heavyweights like Nina Garcia and Charlotte Ronson.
Kent State student Jay Lewis won first place, receiving a $5,000 scholarship. Lewis will also have his design displayed in JCPenney's Manhattan Mall store window. Other Kent State Students who competed in the event will also have their sketches displayed.
