TomKat get footy fever at Collingwood v Essendon, MCG

The Daily Telegrapph - Australia

It is light years away from a Hollywood birthday bash but Tom Cruise seemed to enjoy his low-key birthday celebrations last night - by taking in a game of AFL. The actor and his wife Katie Holmes snuck into the MCG last night for the showdown between Collingwood and Essendon as part of the star's 47th birthday festivities.

The couple arrived at the ground just before the game started in a small convoy with their good friend James Packer.

Two cars drove into the MCG and Cruise and Holmes were able to slip into the private Crown Casino box relatively unseen by the public.

They met with Holmes' "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" co-star Guy Pearce inside the corporate box before watching the match together. The couple's daughter Suri was not with them.

During the game, Cruise was spotted by fans in the crowd and offered them a friendly wave and smile. The couple were said to be dining later at Crown Casino where they occupy the penthouse.

Essendon champion James Hird had a chance meeting with the A-listers, having just entered the car park moments before they arrived.

Hird and his son saw the entourage as it prepared to watch the second clash of the season between the Bombers and the Pies. He shook hands with Packer but didn't appear to be introduced to Cruise.

Earlier yesterday Holmes was photographed looking decidedly less than glamorous when spotted at a Starbucks near Etihad Stadium in Melbourne and coyly sent a staffer to collect her coffee.

Dressed again casually at Docklands studio on Thursday, she caused a commotion when passing a crowd waiting to watch the taping of "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader."
