The new trailer for the Guillermo del Toro-presented, Troy Nixey-directed "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" has failed in its principal aim: it's made us terrified of the dark and all dark-adjacent spaces. Starring Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes, the film looks set to be a haunted house story that throws absolutely every horror trick out there at the audience, along with lots of Del Toro's own patented brand of creepy-beautiful.

The story is a familiar one. A young girl (Bailee Madison, of Bridge To Terabithia) goes to live with her father (Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Holmes) in a big old house. Naturally there's something (or things) there that take an unhealthy interest in the newcomer. Uh, and indeed, oh.

"Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" is out in the UK on August 12 and U.S. on August 26. Buy yourself a nightlight before then.
