The first still image of Katie Holmes in director Troy Nixey's new horror movie, "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark," recently appeared in Entertainment Weekly's San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) preview issue. Now a high-resolution version of the image is online.

A remake of the 1973 made-for-TV movie of the same name, "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" is produced and co-written by Guillermo del Toro and tells the story of a young girl (played by Bailee Madison) who unwittingly unleashes evil creatures in the basement of the mansion that her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Holmes) are renovating.

Miramax will debut the first footage from "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" at SDCC on Friday, from 2:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center. Nixey and del Toro will be on hand to introduce the footage and answer questions about the movie.

Next Showing: "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" opens January 21, 2011.
