Actress Katie Holmes to speak at University of Toledo commencement
Katie Holmes, a renowned actress who most notably starred in the hit television series Dawson’s Creek, will return to her hometown of Toledo this spring to serve as the University of Toledo’s commencement speaker.
Ms. Holmes will deliver her speech at UT’s undergraduate ceremony on May 4 in the Glass Bowl, according to a university spokesman.
She also will receive an honorary degree of humane letters.
Ms. Holmes is a Toledo native and 1997 graduate of Notre Dame Academy. In addition to her role in Dawson's Creek, Ms. Holmes has starred in several movies, including Phone Booth and Batman Begins, and the television miniseries The Kennedys. She left Toledo for Hollywood in the late 1990s. She was married to Hollywood star Tom Cruise from 2006 to 2012 and has a daughter, Suri.
“Ms. Holmes is an internationally recognized film and television actor, producer, and director, as well as a Broadway actor and an entrepreneur,” UT President Sharon Gaber said.
