Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise — starring in a film together?

Could Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes finally be teaming up in a movie.

Spokesfolks for all involved mirror a comment from a Universal Pictures source — "That’s news to me!" — but a close Cruise associate says the superstar couple are considering co-starring in the upcoming comedy "Food Fight."

In the film, Cruise would play an arrogant, world-class New York chef (think Gordon Ramsay, but with an American accent) who, due to a series of circumstances, is forced to cook in a inner-city school cafeteria.

I’m hearing Holmes might play a teacher or a cafeteria staffer in the movie, being scripted by Adam Brooks ("Definitely, Maybe").

This casting news is intriguing coming as Cruise gets good buzz for showcasing his comedic chops in "Tropic Thunder," Ben Stiller’s Hollywood spoof flick that officially opens Wednesday.

Maybe the actor has decided to take a bit of a break from more serious fare, given all the controversy and postponed release dates for "Valkyrie," his World War II drama about the attempted assassination of Adolf Hitler.

Word of the comedy project arrives as we learn Cruise has dropped out of the spy thriller "Edwin A. Salt." He’ll likely be replaced by Angelina Jolie, in a gender-bender for the producers and screenwriter.''
