Katie Holmes plans to expand her presence in the beauty industry.

Katie Holmes is "open" and "interested" in being involved with more beauty projects.

The actress signed a deal with Bobbi Brown cosmetics last year and also became a partner with Alterna haircare in January 2013.

Her positive experiences working with these two brands has fuelled her desire to continue making entrepreneurial steps in the industry.

"I'm interested [in doing a fragrance]. We all need a little help in smelling good, especially in the summer in New York City!" she laughed to WWD.

"I'm open [to more roles in beauty]. I've had wonderful experiences with both Bobbi Brown and Alterna, and it's nice to be a part of companies that have such integrity. I've loved every minute of it - Bobbi is so creative and so smart. I'm very inspired by her. I've also really enjoyed working with Alterna. We haven't created shampoo together, but it's been equally satisfying. I'm proud to be a part of both."

The Bobbi & Katie Collection of make-up will go on sale from September. The range includes a set of brushes, two palettes of eight eye shadows, two Pot Rouges and one mini eye pencil. Katie says the two-in-one lip and cheek colouring Pot Rouge product is one of her favourites.

"In the morning, if you're tired, throw [Pot Rouge] on," Katie explained. "Add some nude lip gloss and you're good. These are things that will perk you up. And I look to Bobbi for that, because she's an incredible make-up artist. I'm always asking her, 'What do I do when I've slept four hours and I'm going to a meeting? What do I do so I don't look like I'm exhausted?'"

The products were inspired by Katie's busy life as a working actress and mom to her daughter Suri. The star also inspired the packaging, and she shared how her old diary sparked her idea for how the make-up could look.

"I had this old journal that was brown and pink, and it felt very girly, but at the same time masculine in a way," she said. "And I always have loved it. So I brought it, and I said, 'This is something that I really like, and could we maybe use this as inspiration for the packaging?' And she, Bobbi, was very open to that. And then the [cosmetics] colours we chose were really personal to us. I'm busy, Bobbi's busy - I don't know a woman who isn't busy, and you need that quick fix. You need the natural colours like nudes. Nobody wants to look like they've been getting ready for hours. It's all about the effortless chic."

Katie also plans to return to fashion by presenting her line Holmes & Yang at New York Fashion Week again. Katie owns the label with her friend and former stylist Jeanne Yang but made headlines in January when their line was notably missing from the New York Fashion Week preliminary schedule.

"We'll probably do something smaller, like in the hotel as we did in February," Katie added. "We found that to be very effective. We've had great sell-throughs at [department store] Barneys. We're having a good time."
